I've always had an aversion to taking pictures of people, but digital makes it that much harder. Everyone wants to see (and usually retake) the photo immediately, and anything impromptu and interesting gets lost. I like that film removes the option for an instant review.

I keep finding myself taking photos like this, though – people as a small story within a broader environment and making anonymity a feature of the frame. That's probably the only sort of portraiture with which I'll ever feel comfortable.
